Susan L. King is a partner and Chair of Hancock Estabrook’s Trusts & Estates Department. She has extensive experience advising individual clients as well as companies of all sizes in the fields of comprehensive estate and wealth transfer planning, corporate formation, mergers, acquisitions, business succession and estate taxation, estate administration and elder law. Her practice also includes assisting clients with tax planning, private wealth strategic planning, elder law and corporate matters. She is admitted to practice in New York, New Jersey, Florida, Georgia, Pennsylvania and the U.S. Tax Court.
Ms. King’s diverse legal knowledge and experience have proven vital for our clients wrestling with the task of managing and passing along family wealth between generations while maximizing protection of that wealth within the framework of underlying family dynamics and minimizing overall gift, income and estate tax. The assistance provided to our business owners in the purchases and sales of their companies and/or transferring company equity to family members in a tax efficient manner is incorporated into the overall planning process so that each side of the process, corporate and wealth transfer planning, is blended to avoid the risk of inconsistency that can occur when each side is handled separately.
As a frequent speaker, Ms. King has lectured for such organizations as the New York State Bar Association, ALI-ABA, Lorman Education Services and New Jersey Continuing Legal Education. Ms. King has published numerous articles regarding estate and gift taxation in such publications as the Journal of Taxation, Broker News, and the New York Law Journal.
