Carl L. Schmidt is an attorney in the Firm’s Environmental, Municipal and Public Entities and Zoning and Land Use Practices. He focuses on all aspects of environmental law, including compliance and remediation, health and safety regulations as well as right to build issues, including compliance with the State Environmental Quality Review Act (“SEQRA”).
Mr. Schmidt also assists with municipal matters for various towns, cities and villages, ensuring operations comply with applicable State, federal and local laws and regulations. In this capacity, Mr. Schmidt regularly provides clients assistance with issues related to Open Meetings Law, The Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) and General Municipal Law. He assists clients with drafting ordinances and resolutions and other legal issues that arise from day-to-day municipal operations including contract and policy and procedure reviews. Previously, Mr. Schmidt served as Director of Solid Waste Programs for Oswego County.
Mr. Schmidt is a regular presenter in the Firm’s Municipal Bootcamp Training Program supporting the educational training of local governments, municipal officials, and planning and zoning board members. He has presented on the basics of running a successful meeting and translating comprehensive plans into land use regulation.
Mr. Schmidt currently serves as Justice for the Town of Granby, NY.
