Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprise (MWBE)

When a mid-sized food processing company in Central New York was denied recertification status as a New York State Woman-owned Business Enterprise, it faced the prospect of being unable to compete for government contracts that comprised over 75% of its business. Facing decertification, the company considered closing its doors. The attorneys of Hancock Estabrook quickly took action to appeal the decision with Empire State Development.

Attorneys from our Business and Litigation departments advised the company on updated requirements for MWBE certification, assisted it in undertaking an internal compliance review and corporate restructuring, and vigorously pursued an administrative appeal and hearing to fight decertification.

Our attorneys successfully obtained recertification and MWBE status for the company, allowing it to continue to grow and expand its business.
