Trusts & Estates and Tax Law Alert: Treasury Delays April 15 Deadline to Pay Taxes

As part of the federal government’s response to the COVID crisis, on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 the US Treasury announced a 90 day extension of the tax payment deadline, delaying tax payments without penalties and interest. Many details are still to be determined, and at this point, it is unclear whether New York State will follow suit.

Note: The filing deadline still exists, so you must file or apply for the extension by April 15, but the payment deadline is delayed. This also does not appear to apply to fiduciary income tax returns. Hancock Estabrook will continue to monitor developments and provide updates.
