Retired Judge Stewart F. Hancock, Jr. to Lead Alternative Dispute Resolution Practice Group
Syracuse, New York – Hancock Estabrook, LLP, Counselors at Law, is pleased to announce that retired Court of Appeals Judge Stewart F. Hancock, Jr. will head Hancock Estabrook, LLP’s Alternate Dispute Resolution practice group which provides arbitration and mediation services in international and domestic commercial and non-commercial matters including negligence.
Before his 8 year tenure on the New York State Court of Appeals, Judge Hancock, for several years, served as an Associate Justice of the Appellate Division and as a New York State Supreme Court Trial Justice. Prior to his judicial career, Judge Hancock was a trial and appellate litigator at Hancock Estabrook, LLP. He was Corporation Counsel of the City of Syracuse for two years.
After leaving the Court of Appeals, Judge Hancock returned to Hancock Estabrook, LLP, where he is actively engaged in appellate practice and functions as an arbitrator and mediator in domestic and international commercial disputes. He serves as an expert witness on questions of New York law and testifies frequently on questions of New York law in matters pending in foreign jurisdictions.
Judge Hancock is a member of several domestic and international arbitration panels including the AAA International Arbitration and Large complex Commercial Case Panels and the CPR Institute for Dispute Resolution Panel of Distinguished Neutrals. Among other memberships, Judge Hancock is a Fellow of the College of Commercial Arbitrators and a member of the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA).
Judge Hancock is a Visiting Professor and Jurist in Residence at Syracuse University College of Law where he conducts a seminar in Case Analysis and Appellate Advocacy. He is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and of Cornell Law School.
