Hancock Estabrook Participates in the Screening Process for the NY Court of Appeals

Janet Callahan was chosen as one of six members of the Upstate Tri-County (Erie, Monroe and Onondaga) Bar Association Judicial Screening Commission, who traveled to Albany on Monday to interview and rate the seven contenders for the open seat created by the recent untimely passing of Judge Theodore T. Jones.  The members of the group reviewed the applications submitted by the nominees and conducted a personal interview with each on Monday, to assess their judicial temperament, legal ability and experience, legal writing, character and fitness, work ethic and impartiality.  The Commission then issued a letter to Governor Andrew Cuomo with its ratings for each of the seven nominees under consideration.

The Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York (WBASNY) also conducted screenings of the seven candidates.  WBASNY’s Judiciary/Courts committee is comprised of a representative from each of the 18 chapters across the state.  Personal interviews with each candidate were conducted at the Association of the City Bar of New York in New York City.  As President of WBASNY, Maureen Maney oversaw and participated in the screening process.
