Webinar: NYS Hero Act – What Employers Need to Know
Labor & Employment attorney, Emily A. Middlebrook, will present “NYS Hero Act – What Employers Need to Know” at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 22, 2021 to the Human Services Coalition Forum.
On May 5, 2021 Governor Cuomo signed into law the New York Health and Essential Rights Act (the HERO Act) which is intended to prevent current and future occupational exposure to airborne infectious diseases at workplaces. The Act applies to private sector employers in New York State (municipalities or other government agencies excluded).
The HERO Act makes permanent some of the guidelines from the New York Forward initiative, including requiring employers to prepare and adopt model airborne infectious disease plans.
Moreover, the HERO Act requires employers with ten or more employees to allow employees to establish joint labor management workplace safety committees. The Act applies to all airborne infectious diseases, not just COVID-19.
This program will provide an overview of the HERO Act, outline specific requirements and implementation timelines, and provide recommendations on what organizations can do to prepare for the new requirements.
