About This Event:

Telemedicine involves the use of technology allowing two-way, real-time interactive communication between the provider and a patient in order to deliver clinical health care services. In the broader sense Telehealth, or the use of electronic information and telecommunications technologies to support clinical health care can include electronic document exchanges, telephone consultations, email or texting, remote patient monitoring as well as videoconferencing between provider and patient. The use of Telemedicine by providers is constantly expanding and evolving as a way to create a cost-effective alternative to more traditional face-to-face interactions between provider and patient. In fact, some have suggested that 1 in 6 visits in the coming year will be a virtual visit, and the expansion of Telemedicine and Telehealth services is bound to increase in the near future.

Recent changes under New York law and Medicare related to telemedicine reimbursement highlight the expanding role Telemedicine will play in the future of health care. Of course, changes to traditional healthcare delivery also mean that providers must consider how the use of these technologies will impact important legal considerations for healthcare providers, including licensure and credentialing, reimbursement and liability issues.

Hancock Estabrooks 2015 Health Law Symposium will address the background legal considerations providers and healthcare administrators must consider with the expansion of Telemedicine and Telehealth, and will feature presentations from providers currently using these technologies who will provide practical insights into the benefits and pitfalls of Telemedicine and Telehealth expansion.
