Labor & Employment Legal Assistant – Syracuse

Hancock Estabrook, LLP, a well-established Upstate New York law firm, is seeking a Legal Assistant to support its Labor & Employment Practice Group. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with attorneys on a wide range of employment law and litigation matters, providing essential support in document preparation, and administrative coordination. The ideal candidate is highly organized and detail-oriented.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, proofread, and format legal documents, correspondence, pleadings, and discovery materials.
  • File documents in state and federal courts and with administrative agencies such as the EEOC, NLRB, NYSDHR, NYSDOL, and USDOL.
  • Maintain and organize case files, calendars, and deadlines to ensure timely filings and responses.
  • Coordinate and manage attorney schedules, meetings, and client communications.
  • Assist with document production, deposition preparation, and trial or hearing materials.
  • Handle client intake, engagement letters, billing, and time entry processes.
  • Provide general administrative support to attorneys and collaborate effectively with team members across the firm.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years of experience working in a law office or legal environment required.
  • Prior experience in federal and state court litigation is desirable but not required.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and document management systems.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Professional demeanor, discretion, and strong client service orientation.

The pay range for this position is $25.00-$30.00 per hour and represents the firm’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Actual compensation will depend upon a number of factors, including the candidate’s years of experience, qualifications and skill set.
