National School Boards Association Releases List of FAQs Relating to DOMA Employer Issues

The National School Boards Association (NSBA), in partnership with the National Education Association and American Association of School Administrators, has released a list of FAQs for school district employers and employees to help deal with any questions that have been raised as a result of the recent Supreme Court United States v. Windsor ruling.

The Windsor ruling, which struck down the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), has changed how some policies and benefits should be altered or expanded when referring to employees’ marriages or spouses. These FAQs try to provide further clarification, addressing issues like what to do if your school district is located in a state that does not recognize same-sex marriages, or if employees should be notified of benefits changes, etc.
