Michael W. Schell is of counsel in the Litigation Practice. He practices at the Firm's 90 S. Swan St., Albany office. Mr. Schell focuses his practice on litigation issues and assisting the Firm’s clients in both the capital region and in the North Country. He provides advice and counsel on commercial, products liability and personal injury issues. Mr. Schell has had a long career representing the interests of Upstate New York in both the public and private sectors.

Mr. Schell's private practice experience includes founding and serving as a principal partner and trial attorney at the Watertown-based firm Maloney, Schell & Eisenhauer, and as of counsel at the Syracuse-based firm of Cherundolo, Bottar & Leone. He was a founder of the United States District Court Northern District Bar Association and president of the Jefferson County Bar Association. Mr. Schell was also appointed to the Civil Justice Reform Act Advisory Group and chaired the Merit Selection Panel, charged with vetting candidates leading to the appointment of United States Magistrates for the United States District Court, Northern District of New York.

Mr. Schell retired from private practice in 2007 to become Senior Advisor for Intergovernmental Affairs and then Senior Upstate Advisor for the Office of the Governor. He also served as Chairman of the Jefferson County Democratic Committee, Founding Chair of the New York State Democratic Rural Conference, Executive Chairman of the State Democratic Party and Member of the Democratic National Committee.
