Maureen E. Maney is a partner in the Litigation Practice.  She concentrates her practice on the defense of corporations, individuals, health care providers, religious entities and not-for-profit organizations in a wide variety of civil litigation at both the trial and appellate levels in state and federal court.  Ms. Maney assists clients with matters involving commercial disputes, employment, products liability, medical and nursing malpractice, fiduciary litigation and negligence claims.  She also assists the Health Care and Trusts and Estates Practice Groups in various matters including guardianship proceedings under Article 81 and fiduciary litigation involving challenges and/or the defense of an executor or trustee’s actions regarding the financial management of an estate or trust.  She has also served as local counsel to national law firms on diverse litigation matters.  Ms. Maney’s clients include hospitals, nursing homes, national transportation companies, business entities, financial institutions, religious corporations, and individuals.

Ms. Maney was selected as a “Rising Star” by the New York Law Journal for 2013 and New York – Upstate Super Lawyers in 2015.


  • Obtained a defense jury verdict for a healthcare institution in which it was alleged that physician assistants and nursing staff failed to timely diagnose and treat a compartment syndrome.
  • Obtained a defense verdict in a premises liability action involving claims for personal injuries in excess of $1 million.
  • Tried and assisted in multiple jury and bench trials representing interests of physicians, hospitals, nurses, dentists, therapists and other health care professionals.
  • Obtained numerous summary judgments on behalf of clients involving transportation and motor vehicle accidents, premises liability, wrongful hiring and negligent supervision, construction accidents, and medical malpractice claims.
  • Successfully defended a large trucking company and a driver in an accident involving a fatality.
  • Mediated various cases to favorable resolution.
  • Destelhorst v. Atlantic Detroit Diesel Allison, 23 A.D.3d 901 (3d Dept. 2005) (Summary judgment dismissing personal injury action affirmed on appeal.)
  • Kele v. Pelkey, 2007 WL 189021 (N.D.N.Y. 2007) (Dismissal of 1983 claim against sheriff’s department.)
  • Zink v. Vanmiddlesworth, 300 B.R. 394 (Bankr. N.D.N.Y. 2003) (Favorable determination by Court of respective security interests and priority among creditors affirmed on appeal.)
