Maureen E. Maney is a partner in the Litigation Practice and a member of the Affordable Care Act Initiative Team. She concentrates her practice on the defense of corporations, individuals, and institutional and individual health care providers in a wide variety of civil litigation at both the trial and appellate levels. Ms. Maney assists clients with matters involving products liability, labor law violations, commercial disputes, negligence, trust and estate litigation, and medical malpractice claims. She also handles guardianship proceedings under Article 81. Ms. Maney’s clients include hospitals, transportation entities, business entities, financial institutions and individuals.

Ms. Maney has been selected as a "Rising Star" by the New York Law Journal for 2013.

  • Obtained a defense jury verdict for a healthcare institution in which it was alleged that physician assistants and nursing staff failed to timely diagnose and treat a compartment syndrome.
  • Obtained a defense verdict in a premises liability action involving claims for personal injuries in excess of $1 million.
  • Tried and assisted in multiple jury and bench trials representing interests of physicians, hospitals, nurses, dentists, therapists and other health care professionals.
  • Obtained numerous summary judgments on behalf of clients involving transportation and motor vehicle accidents, premises liability, wrongful hiring and negligent supervision, construction accidents, and medical malpractice claims.
  • Successfully defended a large trucking company and a driver in an accident involving a fatality.
  • Mediated various cases to favorable resolution.
  • Destelhorst v. Atlantic Detroit Diesel Allison, 23 A.D.3d 901 (3d Dept. 2005) (Summary judgment dismissing personal injury action affirmed on appeal.)
  • Kele v. Pelkey, 2007 WL 189021 (N.D.N.Y. 2007) (Dismissal of 1983 claim against sheriff’s department.)
  • Zink v. Vanmiddlesworth, 300 B.R. 394 (Bankr. N.D.N.Y. 2003) (Favorable determination by Court of respective security interests and priority among creditors affirmed on appeal.)
