James S. Skloda is a partner in the Real Estate and Environmental Practices. His practice focuses on commercial real estate and related financing, leasing, and property tax issues. Mr. Skloda’s clients include business owners, banks and other financial institutions, property developers, religious and educational institutions, and not-for-profit organizations. He is also examining counsel for multiple national title insurance companies.

Mr. Skloda counsels clients on matters related to the development and use of real property, including: land use and subdivision approvals, leases, negotiation and procurement of tax incentives and other economic development tools, the creation and operation of homeowners’ associations and condominiums, Brownfield remediation and development, environmental and conservation easements, foreclosures, and property tax assessment and exemption issues.

  • Served as real estate counsel for a not-for-profit educational foundation in connection with the development and construction of a student dormitory.
  • Obtained total tax exemption for properties assessed at over $11 million on behalf of a not-for-profit foundation.
  • Served as counsel for a lender in connection with the foreclosure and resale of income-producing apartment buildings.
  • Served as counsel for a timber company in connection with the purchase of land valued at over $15 million and related sale of conservation easement to the State of New York.
  • Served as counsel for convenience store and gas station operator in connection with the selection, acquisition, and financing of new retail locations.
  • Served as counsel for the owner of environmentally-contaminated properties relating to the successful completion of the New York Brownfield program.
